Jo
Ann's Stage Door Report
Hi,
I
did talk to Matt, DB, and William.
It is a good thing that we were staying across the street from the theatre
because we didn't get into town as early as I expected. I ran across
the street and bought bagels, so our stomachs wouldn't growl along with
Percy, while the others changed and we went to the theatre about 5 minutes
of. It is a gorgeous old and ornate theatre. It is where I have
seen Phantom and it is perfect for those "period" shows.
We were in the second row of regular seats and there were several rows of
chairs between us and the stage. I would have gotten the tickets
there had I known but we were close enough and didn't get cricks in our
necks.
I enjoyed the show. I didn't know that it ends at Le Comedie
Francaise now so that was a surprise. I forgot to ask William how it
feels to sing from the guillotine, so high up. I was a bit frustrated
with Robert because he looks a bit like Doug but he isn't Doug. They
needed to put some more hairspray on his bangs because they flop too much.
I guess I am more used to Doug and Terry's more subtle acting too. We
all enjoyed it and it was my daughter-in-law's second show so she thought
it was great. She had only seen "The King and I" in a
touring company that came to our University. I told her we would have
her singing show tunes in no time!
We went to the stage door. First one of note, and recognition (it is
hard to decide who people are without wigs and makeup), was David Cromwell
who has been with the show since it was in previews. We told him we
are friends with Pam Burrell and he asked how she is. Pam's first
husband is his agent. I dutifully said hi to Matt and told him you
had heard about his great job as Armand and he said he would have to e-mail
you. He was either Hal or Ben on Friday night. I think Hal but
I'm not sure and I don't have the insert with me. Said hi to DB as
well. William and Robert came out together and Lynna took pics of Mom
and I with each. Robert was whispering and apologizing. I
imagine his voice hasn't had the practice that William's has, being newer
with the show. Oh, almost forgot. Someone threw a bouquet on
the stage at the curtain call. William picked them up when they came
out again and gave them to David Cromwell. He told us why
at the stage door and I don't remember but I'll check with Mom. He
has lost a lot of weight since I first saw him.
We ushered for Blue Man on Saturday afternoon. It's great to be able to
volunteer to usher and see a show for free as often as you want. This
makes 5 times, only once with tickets. Those three guys sure convey a lot
without saying anything.
